Because algae are complex organisms with complex life cycles and ecologies, the work of harnessing their power does not take place in a year or two and by a handful of visionaries. This work is the work of a large scientific, industrial and business community and encompassing decades of study in laboratory and field. Over the past few years Eldorado Biofuels has been a member of the NAABB Consortium, a cooperative arrangement between companies, universities, government agencies and laboratories to pool resources in pursuit of a common objective.
National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts (NAABB)
The overall goal of the National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts consortium is to produce new technologies that can be implemented by their commercial partners, developing the algal biofuel industry. In order to achieve this goal, their program incorporates major objectives in algal biology, cultivation, harvesting/extraction, and conversion to fuels, co-product development, economic/energy-balance modeling and resource management, which will establish the technologies’ viability for overall sustainability.
